Promotion Cermony

Wednesday, June 6th from 8:30-10:00 we will be celebrating our student’s promotion to sixth grade! Parents and families are welcome to join us for this ceremony. However, siblings who are school age will not be excused to attend. We request that the students dress nicely for this day. Seating is first come, first serve. We ask that you refrain from bringing balloons and other objects that can obstruct the view of others. Following the ceremony we will be hosting a reception for students and families from 10:00-10:40 in front of the 5th grade classrooms. More information regarding the reception will be coming home in the Monday Envelope. Students are expected to stay at school after the ceremony as well as on the last day of school, Thursday June 7th with a 12:00 dismissal.

State Float

State Floats are due Tuesday, June 5th. The directions for this assignment came home last week in the Monday Envelope. Students should not bring their floats to school before Tuesday, June 5th as they take up a lot of space and cannot be stored in the classroom.

The State Float parade will take place the same day at 2:15. Parents are welcome to come and sit or stand on the grass area to watch the parade. Floats should come to school on wheels with a rope, pull cord or handle of some sort. There will be no time during the day for students to make adjustments so students should come prepared.

Book Swap June 1st

Book collections will be Wednesday and Thursday before school in front of the MU. The beloved Book Swap will be Friday, 6/1, during recess.

Report Cards

All report cards will go home on the last day of school, June 7. If students are not here on the last day then the report cards will be available in the office for parents to pick up

Promotional Celebration Leis

Wednesday, May 30th is the last day to purchase your promotional ceremony lei's. The cost is $20. Please consider purchasing one to benefit next years 5th Grade Outdoor Education Field Trip.

Language Arts

We are half way through one of my favorite books, The Phantom Tollbooth this is a great novel to wrap up the year with a little adventure. As we are reading we are focusing on figurative language, vocabulary, theme, plot and character development. We are also comparing and contrasting it with our previous novel A Wrinkle In Time.

Students just wrapped up their final writing piece, a reflection of their elementary school years. They prewrote, drafted, revised and presented their speeches to the class. The class had to choose their top 6 favorite speeches to present to the class again Monday morning. Of the 6 they will choose 3 and we will have eventually have it down to the 1 student to represent our class at the promotion ceremony.

I have to say I am very proud of them! They are an amazingly articulate group who, for the most part, feel very comfortable talking in front of the class. It makes me sad to think in just a few days they will be in middle school. Though I will miss them a lot, I feel that they are ready for the next challenge!

Math

These last few days of school we will be continuing to focus on coordinate grids as well as having fun playing some math games that focus on a combination of different things we have learned over the year.
