Please make sure your student has a mystery chapter book to read throughout the month.

  • I am still accepting donations for the field trip to the Exploratorium and Gold Rush Day supplies. Please make the $25 dollar check payable to Monte Gardens Elementary.  
  • The Carnoween is on Friday, 10/26, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.  You can purchase tickets online with the following link.   
  • The following link will take you to my Sign Up Genius account to sign up to help with Monday Envelopes.  Thank you for volunteering!
  • If you are available, please sign up for a volunteer shift on Konstella for the Carnoween. 
  • Please look in your student's Monday Envelope for the Island of the Blue Dolphins test.  The students were given the opportunity to use their book for the challenging questions.   
  • Island of the Blue Dolphins projects are due this Wednesday.  Your student will also need to prepare a short oral presentation to the class about the project.  Today students were given notecards and told how to prepare for the presentation.    
  • Starting today your student will participate in a daily Language Arts rotation called, "Walk to Language."  All 4th grade students are participating and will get instruction at their specific level. The groups are fluid and will change depending on the needs of the students.  


Language Arts: We will work in Wonders this week and focus on the following:

Essential Question: How do people respond to natural disasters?

Comprehension Skill: Compare and Contrast

Comprehension Strategy: Reread

Genre: Expository Text 

Writing: This week students will start a new unit on expository writing.   

Science:  We are learning about the rocks cycle and weathering.  We will also have a hand on Mystery Science Lab to support our learning.  

Math:  This week we will finish our unit subtracting large numbers and review for an assessment.
