CAASPP Testing

It is that time again... State Testing! We will begin state testing next week starting on Monday, April 30th and we will conclude May 15th. During these weeks there are a few things that you could do at home to help your child

  • Help your child get a good nights sleep.
  • Have a healthy, well balanced breakfast
  • Encourage your child to try their personal best 
  • Try not to schedule Dr. appointments on testing days
  • You can also go through the practice test with your child (optional) by visiting the CAASPP.org website. They can do the practice test.

At school, we will... 

  • Practice logging in and going through the tools and practice using the tools on the practice test.
  • Review concepts that will be seen on the test
  • Walk through relaxation skills to help reduce test anxiety.
  • Reduced homework load.

Weekly Concept: Consider Our Resources

Essential Question: Why are natural resources valuable?

Grammar: possessive pronouns

Spelling: words with cher and zher

 

This week we will continue with our weekly concept in our Language Arts curriculum reading expository text about Earths natural resources, we are also trying our best to wrap up our novel A Wrinkle In Time.

 

Math

We are quickly going through Module 5 and will be wrapping up the unit by the end of the week. We will not have a formal assessment with this unit instead we will do a culminating in school volume project activity which will start April 30th. 

We will being Module 6 next week, which is Geometry. It is a great way to wrap up the year!

Social Studies

 

Students have Social Studies everyday excluding Wednesdays. They are currently learning about the Virginia Colonies. This week their homework is to read the article Mrs. Rogers has sent home. If you have a moment ask your child about it!

 

 

Science

This week students will be starting our new unit title: Water, Water Everywhere: Designing Water Filers. This is an Engineering is Elementary unit where students will learn about a real life problem (polluted water in the Ganges) and will use the engineering process along with several resources to design a water purification system. 

Technology

Technology is taught by Mrs. Sugden. This week students be coding, typing and working on i-Ready lessons.

We are buddies with Ms. Welker's Kindergarten class. We meet every Friday to read, do art or anther activity to help build our compassion, leadership and patience.
